Consider the climate and amount of rainfall your region receives, because some grass requires high amounts of rainfall while others do not. Some grass requires a lot of maintenance, while some are very low maintenance. Also don’t forget about sunlight, you need to understand the amount of sunlight required for different types of grass. Grass can be classified under two broad categories, warm weather grasses and cool weather grasses. There is also a transition zone between the two.



Warm weather grass is usually turn brown during the cooler seasons. They are native to tropical regions and flourish even during months of scorching heat. Drought tolerance is seen in some grasses of this type. Cool season grasses thrive in areas with cold winters and hot summers. The transition zone is an area where some warm season grass is due well due to hot dry summers, as do some cool season grasses because of cold winters.
