What to plant in the Fall

Didn’t have enough time this spring to plant everything you wanted?  Well here’s some great news!

There are a lot of plants that can be planted in the fall, so that next spring your garden will be a breeze.

Planting in the fall is perfect for your plants.  Cool temperatures so the plants don’t scorch, but warmer

ground so the roots have a good chance to grow is the perfect mixture for beautiful gardens.

1.  Hardy Bulbs need to be planted in the fall because they need a period of cold to bloom.  There

are many to choose from.  Put in several varieties so you can enjoy color all spring.

2. Pansies are a wonderful little flower.  When planted in early fall you can still enjoy them this

year and have come back up for Spring.  Use mulch to keep them warm in the winter.

3. Peonies are a beautiful flower to see in the spring.  It is good to plant them in early fall so their

roots have some time to grow.  Tip:  avoid planting too deep, no more than 2 inches above the

bud on the root or they will not bloom.

4. Hostas are a nice contribution to any garden.  They work well in the shade and with so many

varieties they can bloom from June to October.  If you already have a lot and want to split them,

fall is the time to do it, so they come up nice a full in the spring.

5. It is nice for trees and grass seed to be installed in the fall also.  Less watering because of the

cooler temperatures.

Tip:  Mums are a great accent to any garden.  But if you plant them in the fall, don’t be disappointed

when they don’t come back next year.  Plant them in the spring so they have a long time to grow roots.
