5 Ways to Help Your Lawn Thrive

1. Feed Your Lawn Regularly Your lawn processes nutrients within 6-8 weeks, so fertilizing it once a year is not enough! Keeping a schedule of every 4-6 weeks will keep your lawn fed so it can grow strong and crowd out any weeds.

2. Control Weeds Weeds will steal some of the nutrients that were mentioned above. Using products for weed prevention in the spring will give your lawn time to grow strong so it can fight back weeds as well, and you will have to do less to prevent weeds as the year goes on.

3. Water Your Lawn Be sure to water deeply, but your watering schedule may vary depending on how much rain is happening. A good rule of thumb is one inch per week, so if there is no rain then more watering.

Keeping Your Landscaping Watered

Now that we have had some rain and warmer temperatures in the southwestern Chicago suburbs, all your plantings should be well watered and growing. However, as the warmer months approach, make sure your trees and gardens are properly fed so that they don’t wither away. Water bags are great for trees as they slowly release the water into the ground, and as an added bonus are lower maintenance and only have to be filled 2-3 times a week! There are also irrigation systems or garden hoses that slowly disperse water into flower beds available at your local gardening supply stores.
